Tonebook · The method

How Tonebook actually works

Tonebook applies a structured 12-season framework to one clear selfie, then reports a primary season with confidence and adjacent-season guidance when the result is close.

The four reads

1

Selfie

One photo, taken in indirect daylight, no filter. Your face fills the frame. Tonebook asks for neutral daylight, evaluates visible skin, hair and eye color cues, and reports confidence when the result is close.

2

Undertone

The app evaluates visible warm, cool, neutral, or olive color cues. Lighting and camera processing still affect a photo result.

3

Season

Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter — then one of three sub-seasons inside that family. The framework considers undertone direction, value, and chroma.

4

Palette

The free preview includes the season and up to 10 colors. Paid options add fuller palette, makeup, hair, and wardrobe guidance.

Why the method matters. The 12-season system grew from earlier color-analysis schools. Tonebook applies that framework to a phone photo and reports confidence and an adjacent season when the result is close. It is a convenient guide, not a replacement guarantee for controlled in-person draping.

Tonebook is built and maintained solo by Ty Horton.
