A Tone & Fit alternative: free color analysis without an account
If you are looking at Tone & Fit and want to compare it with something else before you pay, this page sets out what each app's own App Store listing says, side by side, and where they differ.
Written by the makers of Tonebook. Tonebook is our app, so read this as a comparison by an interested party. Everything below about Tone & Fit comes from its own live App Store listing in the United States storefront, Personal Color Analysis - T&F, read on 23 September 2026. We have not tested Tone & Fit's accuracy and we do not describe its data handling beyond what its listing states. Confirm current features and prices on the listing before deciding.
What Tone & Fit's listing says it does
- A color analysis app that finds your color season and palette from one photo, using the 12-season system, with no quiz and no account.
- After a scan it shows your undertone, your best metals and a starter set of colors straight away.
- Its "What Premium unlocks" list starts with "Your 12-Season Result" and also includes the full palette (40+ colors), "Power Shades" and "Avoid" lists, a hair color analyzer and makeup guide, jewelry metals and outfit formulas.
- A studio of try-on tools: Hair Studio (138 styles and 105 hair colors on your own photo), Color Try-On, Color Draping and Color Match with the camera. Each comes with one free try; Premium makes them unlimited.
- Premium is a weekly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. The App Store lists in-app purchases from $4.99 to $34.99.
- On privacy, the listing says your photo is analyzed and then discarded, never stored on its servers and never used to train models.
- Seller: Viral Tandel. Requires iOS 15.1 or later. Available in English. Last updated 22 September 2026 (version 1.3.4).
How Tonebook differs
- Your season is free, without an account. In the iPhone app, the free tier includes your color season and up to 10 best colors, plus a shareable palette card. No account is required. The full report — your complete best-color list, neutrals, makeup, hair and accessories — is a paid unlock.
- You can start without downloading anything. The free browser color analysis takes one selfie and gives a suggested season, undertone direction and a 12-color starter palette, with no signup. The photo-free quiz gives a most-likely season and a runner-up from eight questions.
- It says when it is unsure. Every report carries a confidence label (Strong, Good, Mixed or Low), and a close result shows the adjacent season rather than one season presented as certain.
- It is not facial recognition. Tonebook does not perform identity recognition, does not store face embeddings or other biometric identifiers, and never scores attractiveness.
- Your photos are not used to train AI models. Stated plainly: in the app, your selfie is sent to OpenAI's API once per analysis, and OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deleting it. Tonebook does not store the raw selfie on its servers. Full detail in our privacy policy.
- Subscription or one-time. Tonebook Pro is a subscription; the Full Color Report and Lifetime are one-time purchases. Current prices are shown in the app.
- Available in 44 languages on the App Store.

Which one to try
If trying on hairstyles and hair colors on your own photo matters most, Tone & Fit's listing describes a Hair Studio built for exactly that. If you want to see your season before paying anything, and to know how confident the result is, start with Tonebook's free analysis. Both are free to download and neither needs an account, so the simplest test is the same well-lit selfie in both. If they disagree, your coloring probably sits near a season boundary — read sister seasons for why that happens.
